Obituary for Lindal Ruth "Billie" Kuban

Lindal Ruth, affectionately known as Billie, Kuban was born December 26, 1925 in Panama, Oklahoma, the second of four children to Annie Rachel and Riley Edward Hickman. She passed way peacefully with her children next to her in the Roseville Kaiser Permanente Hospital, December 11, 2015. She was 89 years old, just 15 days away from her 90th birthday. As a native of Oklahoma, she migrated west with her family during the war years of World War II, settling in Richmond, CA where she graduated high school and began working as a bank teller with Bank of America. It was there that she met her future husband, Charles J. Kuban, in what would begin a 48 year marriage until the death of Charles in 1998. During those 48 years Lindal enjoyed several other successful employment pursuits including being a child care professional, a sales associate for J.C. Penny's and a supermarket product demonstrator. However, being the mother of seven children was her most joyous and rewarding career.

In 1961, Lindal left Spokane, WA and spent a decade in Dixon, CA where she continued to raise her children and actively participated in the Catholic women's organization Young Ladies' Institute, where she served many years in several positions as an officer including one year as President. In 1971 Lindal and her family relocated to Antioch, CA where her remaining children all graduated high school and eventually left the home to begin their lives. After 17 years in this bay area location illness forced Lindal to take up residence with her daughter in La Verne, CA in late 2009 to present. It was during her annual two month holiday visit back to northern California where shel fell ill and passed away.

At age 89 Lindal was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She leaves behind her 7 children to include Charles Kuban of Dixon, CA, Bruce Kuban of Fair Oaks, CA, Kevin Kuban of Spokane, WA, Ann Hutcheson of Oakley, CA, Mary Kuban of La Verne, CA, Joseph Kuban of San Diego, CA, and Alice Kuban of Sacramento, CA. Additionally touched by the life Lindal are 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Lindal was well known in her circle of many friends for her extensive collection of salt and pepper shakers representing locations throughout the world, her uniqueness in having a birthday the day after Christmas and extending the opportunity for extra presents, and her delight in watching scary movies.

Lindal will be remembered for her strength of character, the support of her children, the depth of her spirituality and her ability to touch hearts wherever she went.

Contributions can be made in Billie's name to the YLI Womens Group of St Peters Catholic Church, 105 2nd Street Dixon, CA 95620
