Obituary for Leroy Carlisle Loveall
Leroy Carlisle (Lee) Loveall, 92, passed away quietly Friday evening, after a lengthy illness. He was born in Chilhowee, Missouri and had happily made his home in Vacaville for 54 years.Lee worked at many jobs in his young life, particularly during the depression when he harvested crops from Canada all the way to the Southern part of the U.S. to help feed his seven younger brothers and sisters. He joined the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1937 and worked on public works projects in Hot Springs Arkansas and Susanville, California. He joined the Navy in 1942 and served for 3 and years on the U.S.S. Lexington through the end of WW2. After the War he returned to the Bay Area where he worked at the Alameda Naval Airbase as a sheet metal mechanic. He learned how to dance to woo the woman he would make his wife for 56 years, and fell in love with Pleasants Valley in Vacaville while visiting her farming family. He transferred to Travis AFB in 1956 where he worked as a sheet metal mechanic until his retirement in 1978. He built his own home on a small country parcel in Pleasants Valley, where he could plant his huge vegetable gardens and tend his fruit trees. Lee loved camping, and throughout the years took his family on long road trips all over the United States to visit parks, monuments, and many quirky out of the way places. His favorite camping spot was always Yosemite, which he visited at least 2 dozen times in his life. After retiring he was able to travel and camp even more beginning with a long trip with his wife and daughter to Spain to meet his wifes family. He always found plenty of time to act as the local fix it man for the neighborhood and over the last 15 years to help his daughter build her nursery business on his property. He was always smiling and happy, and his enthusiasm was infectious to all those who met him. He was a member of lifetime NARFE and St Marys Catholic Church, and over the years had been active in keeping his beloved valley as a farming community.Lee is preceded in death by his parents, his brother James Loveall, sister Helen Simpson and son Joseph Loveall. He is survived by his wife, Mary (Carrillo) Loveall; son Lee James Loveall and daughter-in-law Jane Loveall of Fairfield; daughter Rosemary Loveall-Sale and son-in-law Dan Sale of Vacaville; grandson Glenn Lee Loveall of Davis; brother Art (Karen) Loveall of Missouri; sisters Vivian Marie Casada of Ohio, Mildred Reed of Missouri, Mary Hubbard of Missouri, Naomi (Arnold) Webster of Missouri; step son Frank (Ruth) Loveall of Folsom; and many nephews and nieces. A visitation will be held at McCune Garden Chapel on Thursday Jan 14th from 5 to 8 pm, with a rosary recited at 7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Friday, January 15th at 10 am at St. Marys Catholic Church. Burial will be at the Elmira Cemetery immediately following. Memorial contributions can be made to Disabled American Veterans (www.dav.org).
