Obituary for Leonard "Sonny" Austin Jr.
Leonard Austin Jr., passed away at home with his family by his side. He was born to Leonard & Rose (nee McCrimmons) Alston Sr. (pre-deceased) in Philadelphia, PA. The youngest of four children, he was pre-deceased by two sisters, Josephine and Mary. He spent his life pursuing several careers in transportation with SEPTA, Muni, Greyhound and retiring from B.A.R.T. in management. Leonard’s hobbies of bicycling, bowling, motorcycles, motorhomes, camping, water and snow skiing exhibited his zest for life. His adventurous spirit included seasonal trips across the country to his birthplace and eventually parasailing in Hawaii. Leonard will be eternally remembered by his wife of 65 years, Shirley (nee Crandell) , children Leonard III (Ruby), Aubrey (Carla), Regina & Douglas, grandchildren, Leonard IV, Retha Dominique, Antoine, Aubrey Jr., Ashlee, Aaliyah, , sister Willie-Ann Gaskins, sister-in-law Benita Council, nephews Malcom Gaskins (Renee), Alan, Brian & Albert, extended family and host of friends who felt like family. A military burial will be held Wednesday, January 30th at 11:00 a.m., Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, Dixon, CA. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Leonard Austin can be made to Alzheimer’s Foundation www.alzfdn.org or Yolo Hospice www.yolohospice.org
