Obituary for Lena Yolo
Lena Yolo passed away peacefully in her home on April 17. She was born May 21, 1907, on Joice Island, Solano County, to Peter and Angelina Yolo, immigrants from Switzerland.
When she was 6 months old, the family moved to the present home between Dixon and Vacaville. She attended Owens School which was a one room school house located at Weber and Lewis roads and graduated from Dixon High School Class of 1924. She then attended San Francisco State and received a teaching credential and Bachelor of Arts degree.
She taught at Gomer School in Suisun Valley for one year and in the Vacaville School District for the next 41 years.
She was charter member of Scared Heart Institute No. 141 of the YLI and the Napa Solano Cattlewomen. She was also a member of the Saturday Club, Delta Kappa Gamma, the Solano Deanery of Catholic Women, Native Daughters of the Golden West, and California Retired Teachers Association. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Joseph and John; sister, Emma Fox; and great-nephew, Timothy Nulk.
She is survived by nieces, Patricia Nulk and Margaret \"Peggy\" Ingram of Sacramento; and many great-nieces and nephews.
Services are a Rosary on Thursday, April 22, at 7 p.m., preceded by a viewing at 6 p.m. and a 10 a.m. funeral mass on Friday, April 23, both at St. Peter\'s Catholic Church, 105 S. 2nd St., Dixon, CA 95620. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter\'s Church; the Saturday Club Scholarship Foundation, 125 W. Kendal St., Vacaville, CA 95688; or a charity of your choice.
