Laura Dickinson was born December 22nd, 1935, in Lubbock, Texas. Her parents, Florence and
David Edwards were schoolteachers. As a little Tomboy, she collected various scars that she would later
show her children to prove she hadn’t always been such a proper lady. After graduating from Texas
Tech, on July 26th, 1958, Laura married the love of her life, Arthur Dickinson. With Art’s career in the
United States Air Force, the two would go on to travel the world together, along with their children
Jonathan and Lisa, before ultimately settling in Vacaville, California.
Throughout the years, Laura was a fiercely devoted mother, and the room-mom in her
children’s classes. Always eager to learn something new and make a new friend, Laura would join
gourmet food clubs at each new Air Force base, which ultimately resulted in her becoming a fantastic
cook. Though Laura was endlessly loving of everyone she met, there was nothing she loved more than
her family.
She spent her retirement years traveling the country with her husband, Art, going to see family
members, always making time to stop at her favorite restaurant, Cracker Barrel, for a chicken liver
dinner. As the co-pilot of “Gus-The-Bus”, the family van, and the family camper, or “Gramper”, she was
in charge of keeping the driver awake, the kids occupied, and everyone’s stomachs full.
There are many ways to remember Laura, like her fierce determination, her friendly nature, or
her adventurous heart. Laura was many things to many people, a mother, a teacher, a friend, a
neighbor, and to her grandchildren, Grammy. She is survived by her two children, their spouses, and
three grandchildren. The world is a better place because she lived and she will be dearly missed.
