Obituary for Larry L. Martin
Faithful and Loving Husband, Dad, Brother, Uncle and Friend. On Wednesday, October 14, 2020, Larry L. Martin “flew West” at the age of 77, entering life eternal in his Father’s House. Larry was born on June 22, 1943 in Poplar Bluff Missouri, to Norvel Alden and Dorothy Marie Martin. His early education began in a small town in Nebraska. He graduated from Big Springs High School in 1961. He was Senior Class President and was a standout in every sport he played, but especially Basketball. While in High School, Larry once Scored 43 points to win a close game. Earning All-State Honors on his basketball team, he received a scholarship to play Basketball at University of Nebraska, Lincoln. Larry graduated in 1966 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education from University of Nebraska, Kearny. High School English, his first teaching assignment took Larry to Woodland Hills, California. The Vietnam War was underway and Larry enlisted in the Navy in 1969, earned his wings and became a Navy Pilot. He flew the P-3 Orion, a large 4 engine plane carrying sonar equipment, in search of enemy submarines. His flying experiences led to his career as an Airline Pilot with Transamerica, PSA and he retired as a 737 Captain with US Airways in 2003. Larry married Dotty Watts on March 6, 1982. Their marriage was blessed with a daughter and a son. He loved being a Dad and enjoyed camping trips in their motor home, with his family and friends and neighbors, for many years. He enjoyed making things from wood for his family, and watching all sports, but especially Basketball. Larry had a love for sports and played Tennis, Golf and loved to Ski with his Navy friends in Tahoe, they shared many fond memories. He also enjoyed teaching a few friends and family members to Ski. He liked to play Bridge, Cribbage and any card game. Larry will be greatly missed by Dotty his wife of 38 years, daughter Beth Anne Buller (Paul), son Michael Alden Martin (Laura), grandson, Lucas Alden and granddaughter, Baily Grace arriving in February 2021. Larry will also be missed by his Sister Linda Watkins (Doug) and Sister In-law, Bev Martin. And he will be missed by his sister in laws, Karyn Kopp (Ronnie) and Dorma Watts, his Brother in law Mike Watts (Brenda) and many nieces and nephews. Larry was preceded in death by his parents Norvel Alden and Dorothy Marie Martin, Sister Beth Dykeman and Brother Bill Martin. Dotty, Beth Anne (Paul) and Michael (Laura) are Thankful and Blessed by family, friends, neighbors, prayer partners, Co-workers and Larry’s Navy brothers who have and reached out to support our family. A Military Burial, with Honors will take place at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, in Dixon California.
