Obituary for Kirby Ray Benson
Kirby Ray Benson was born February 17, 1948 in Honolulu, Hawaii to Ray August and Ruth Delia Benson. He only lived in Hawaii a short time before his family moved and eventually ended up in Novato, California. Kirby proudly served his country in the Army where he served two terms in Vietnam. He also served in Korea. Some of his favorite stories to tell are that of jumping out a plane, as he served in the 101st Airborne division. While living in Novato, Kirby met and married the love of his life, Dora Jean. “We knew each other since he was in the 2nd grade. We started dating in 1968 and married February 26, 1972 in a chapel in Reno with our parents and siblings. We moved on to Kentucky in 1972 and moved back to Novato in 1974. We then moved on to Vallejo in 1978-1980 before ending up in Vacaville in 1980.” Not only did Kirby love his family and friends, he loved working on older cars (he detested working on “these new things”), working in his yard, creating amazing model cars with accessories, talking about his military days and playing darts at Vacaville’s Hide-A-Way. Kirby was preceded in death by his father, Ray August Benson; his step-father, Harold Poore; his mother, Ruth Delia Poore; and both of his brothers, Kraig Benson and Keith Benson. He is survived by his wife of 46 years Dora Jean; sons and daughter in laws Jason & Veronica Benson and Walter & Charlene Benson; daughter and son in law Crystal & Chris Bell; grandson Raymond Bell Jr (Buddy), and his four-legged companion Bailey. Kirby is also survived by many extended family members and friends. Please come celebrate Kirby’s life at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, Ca on September 14, 2018 at 2:30pm. We will have a repass at our home. Please contact us for the address. With much love, The Benson & Bell Families
