Obituary for Judith E. McGranahan
On Sunday, October 18, 2020, Judith E. McGranahan, wife of Gary J. McGranahan, mother of two, Grandma, and Great Grandma, passed away at the age of 82. Judy was born on July 16, 1938 in Columbus, Ohio to Ralph H. and Virginia T. Packer. She received her Education degree from Ohio University in 1959 and taught elementary school for 55 years. On April 15, 1962 she married her husband of 53 years, Gary J. McGranahan. They raised a son, Michael J. McGranahan and a daughter, Patricia A. (McGrahanahan) Wilson.
Judy had an overall passion for life ~ always loved spending time with family, learning about and discovering each new location the military sent them to, making new friends and keeping up with old friends. Always up for a visit whenever possible, she would make the time to spend with friends and family. She loved to cook and bake, trying out new recipes and volunteering to bring refreshments for family get togethers, and other functions and thoroughly enjoying big family meals together. Christmas cookies and treats were her favorite to do as it would provide an opportunity to spend special time with people she loved. A special "candy cane" cookie recipe and technique has already been lovingly and patiently shared and passed along to her daughter, granddaughters, and great granddaughter. Judy was an avid reader from early on in her childhood. She loved teaching and thrived from the energy of young children and helping them learn. Judy was one among us who had found their calling in their life's work. In her retirement she kept active and had fun with her bowling league, bocce ball team, and volksmarching club. She loved her Solano Valley Church family and was known for her infectious smile, positive encouragement of others and kind, compassionate spirit.
Judy is preceded in death by her husband, Gary. As well as her younger brother, Walter Packer and sister-in-law, Ann Packer. She is survived by her sister, Joyce McPherson and brother-in-law Larry McPherson; her two children, Mike and Patty, daughter-in-law Michelle, and son-in-law Craig, seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
