Obituary for Judith Ann (Mallory) Cottier
Beloved, long time resident and community activist, Judith Ann Cottier entered into eternal rest on February 2, 2011, after a long illness, surrounded by friends and family. Born Judith Ann Mallory, in Titusville Pennsylvania she moved with her family to the Solano County area in 1945. In the fall of 1957, while working at Sonoma State Hospital she met the love of her life, Charles L. Cottier and after a whirlwind romance they married on February 16, 1958 and moved to Vacaville in 1965. Mrs. Cottier championed quality education and equity for all children. At a time when grammar schools were constructed without playground equipment, she spearheaded fundraising campaigns to erect parks at Paden and Fairmont Elementary schools. She was a long time PTA member, serving as both District President and State Representative. As a state representative she worked with politicians and celebrities on PTAs One Child One Voice campaign, championing education. She also served on the Vacaville Bicentennial Commission. Mrs. Cottier was a life long Christian who held many offices within her church, but enjoyed her duties as Leader of Prayer Ministries most. She truly believed that through prayer, all things are possible. Mrs. Cottier is survived by her beloved husband and helpmate, Charles. L. Cottier of Vacaville, two daughters Susan Cottier (and her partner Charles Peter) and Sheryl Ann Ruth (and her husband James M. Ruth III) both of Vacaville. She leaves behind her grandchildren, Megan Elise Cottier (and Charlie Szekretar) of Oakridge, Oregon, Sarah Elizabeth (and Ryan) Creamer of Vacaville, Kamber Nichole Ruth of Dsseldorf, Germany and Branton James Ruth of Vacaville. She is also survived by her great-granddaughter Zoe Ann Creamer of Vacaville and siblings and in-laws William (and the late Opal) Mallory of Citrus Heights, W.H Bud (and Carolyn) Mallory of Fair Oaks, George (and Roberta) of Sacramento, Nancy (and Earl) Stonebrink of Newburg, Oregon, Mary (and the late Cecil) Whisenhunt of Sacramento and John (and Marge) Mallory of Lincoln, John (and Lisa) Cottier of Sacramento, David Penry of Sebastopol and Cy (and Laura) Penry of Santa Rosa and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Cottier is also survived by her foster son K.A. Gingerich and his family. She was preceded in death by her brother-in-law Cyrenus Eugene Cottier of Santa Rosa, Jim and Gail (Cottier) Lewis of British Columbia Canada and Thelma Mallory of Sacramento. The family wishes to thank the many people who have reached out to them during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers friends and family are encouraged to donate to a charity of their choice, or the Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research. The SonRise Community Fellowship Church has also established the Judy Cottier Kids Town Memorial Fund. A visitation will be held at McCune Garden Chapel, Vacaville, California on Friday, February 11, from 5 to 8 in the evening. A Celebration of Life will take place at the SonRise Community Fellowship Church, Vacaville on Saturday, February 12, at 11:00 a.m., with a reception immediately following.
