Obituary for Joseph Villena Ariza
Joseph Villena Ariza on February 13, 2016 at the age of 87 passed following a brief illness. He was born on January 20, 1929 to Michael and Antonia Ariza in Vacaville, CA. Although Joseph lived his entire life in Vacaville, he enlisted in the US Navy in 1947 and served 4 years as a Boiler Technician. When he returned to work at Basic American Foods he used the skills he learned in the Navy and was promoted into the maintenance department. Joseph had been employed by Basic for 46 years when he retired in 1986. During his employment he was promoted to Maintenance Foreman. He also served as a Shop Stewart, 11 years as Vice President and 16 years as president of Teamsters Local 857.
After retiring Joseph opened carburetor rebuilding businesses at his home. Because of his knowledge, skills and advances in technology, he became one of less than a handful to survive in business. People would bring him carburetors from all over the state. Joseph also enjoyed having coffee or lunch with his friends and telling jokes to anyone that would listen.
Joseph is survived by his wife Carmen Ariza of almost 65 years, daughter Diana Corbitt of Vacaville, son Dennis Ariza of Fairfield, grandchildren Mark, Jennifer, Chad, Francisco, Tyson, and Sean and Great-Grandchildren Zack, Savannah, Jenna, Jayden, and Leo, sister Annie along with many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Monday, February 22, 2016 at McCune Garden Chapel, 212 Main Street, Vacaville, CA. Viewing: 10:30-12:00 Noon, Catholic Service: 12:30pm followed by grave site services at Fairmont Memorial Park at 1901 Union Ave., Fairfield, CA.
