Joseph Rod McDonald, 84, of Vacaville, passed away after a long illness, Nov. 6 in Winsor House. He was born May 7, 1925 in Spokane, Wash., one of nine children.Joseph served in the United States Marine Corp during World War II and then went on to join the Air Force Reserve as an officer, retiring as a Major after 20 years. Joseph graduated from San Jose State college in 1952, with a degree in Business Management. He managed the Vaca Bowl for 5 years and then went on to be stockbroker up until he became sick. He was a member of the The Scottish Rite Freemasonry and The Eastern Star. He was also a big 49er and A's fan. Joseph is survived by his wife Mary of Vacaville; daughter, Jana McDonald of Fairfield, Pamela Zahnzinger of Rimrock, Ariz., Amy Burgess, of Loveland, Colo.; sons, Jay McDonald of Esparto and Joe McDonald of Winters; sisters, Estelle Hendrickson and Nadine Jansen, both of Redding; brothers, Tom McDonald, of Anderson and Chuck McDonald, of Virginia; grandchildren, Patti Quigley, of Esparto, Laura McDonald, of Idaho, Ethan Zahnzinger, of Rimrock, Ariz., Cassandra Zahnzinger, of Rimrock, Ariz. and Luke Blanchard, of Vacaville.A memorial service with Reverend Su Schlagel officiating, will be held Thursday, Nov. 12, at 1 p.m. at McCune Garden Chapel. Donations can be made to Shriners Children Hospital, 2425 Stockton Blvd., Sacramento CA 95817. Arrangements are under the direction of McCune Garden Chapel, 448-6546.
