Obituary for Joseph Maurice Stevenson
JOSEPH MAURICE (MORRY) STEVENSON

Morry was born November 5, 1956, in Fresno, California, to Joseph Girard Stevenson and Barbara Topping Stevenson. He passed away on December 9, 2009, in Vacaville, California at age 53. He attended school in the San Francisco Bay area and graduated from Oak Grove High School in San Jose. He received technical training and was a medical equipment assembler for Varian Medical Equipment Co. in the Bay area.

Morry was an avid SCUBA diver and bicycle enthusiast, continuing those activities well after he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2003. He was an active member of the National Rifle Association. He also enjoyed cruising with his grandfather, Harry Wallace. Morry was strongly independent and lived alone throughout his battle with MS. He had excellent care provided through Home Health Care and particularly his caretaker, Ashley.

He is survived by his uncle, Ray Stevenson (Joan), his cousins, Larry Stevenson (Pam), Jennifer Jennings and Chris Stevenson (Jackie). He also enjoyed a host of second cousins and their children including Charlene Schmidt (Fred), Paula Tremaine, Girard Jones (Ruby), and Gary Girard. His paternal ancestors were long time settlers in the San Joaquin Valley, particularly in the Delano area.

He was pre-deceased by his mother and father, Joseph G. and Barbara Stevenson: his maternal grandfather and grandmother, Harry and Leatha Wallace, his paternal grandfather and grandmother, Joseph J. and Victoria Stevenson.

A memorial gathering will be held Friday, February 26 at 1:00 PM at the Elmira Cemetery in Vacaville where his ashes will be interred at the gravesite of his mother, Barbara. A reception for family and friends will be held following the gathering.

In lieu of flowers or other remembrances, a donation to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or your favorite charity would be appreciated.
