Obituary for Jose Roberto Cruz

Jose “Bubas” Cruz, a proud Navy veteran, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2025, at the age of 85. Born on March 15, 1940, in Mangilao, Guam, Jose dedicated his life to service—both during his military career and in his post-retirement years, always giving back to his family, friends, and community.

He is survived by his daughter, Lorraine Tang, his sons, Joseph and Vincent Cruz, their spouses, Jessa and Lilliane, and his five beloved grandchildren: Jordan, Nathan, Jared, Sid, and Natalie. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Yokoi Cruz, in 2024.

Jose's love for family and friends began in his childhood, growing up on a working farm as one of eight children. He often reminisced about the shenanigans and pranks that he and his siblings played on one another. A lover of sports, Jose had a special passion for Baseball, where he excelled as a pitcher. His love for the game led him to play in a Navy league, further exemplifying his competitive spirit.

After retiring from the Navy and almost 20 years of civil service, Jose and Ann embraced their golden years together, traveling across the country in their RV, going on cruises, and touring the world, making memories that will live on forever.

Jose’s deep sense of community and respect for elders was nurtured in Guam, where he learned the values of service, humility, and dedication to others. He served his country with unwavering commitment, embodying the ideals of strength, courage, and sacrifice, and his legacy will continue to inspire all who knew him.

His family and friends will always cherish the invaluable lessons he imparted and the example he set for living a life full of love and service. Jose’s love for his family and community will forever guide and inspire us.

Rest in peace, sailor… Adios esta’ki uma’lie hit talo. You will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
