Obituary for Jose M. Gutierrez
Jose M. Gutierrez, 85, beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away on December 6. Jose was born in Halacho, Yucatan, Mexico and arrived in Dixon in the mid-1950’s to work as a bracero under the “Bracero Work Program”. He worked in Dixon area farms until his retirement from Davey Farms in 2001. His commitment as a hard, loyal farmworker and belief that education was imperative for his children to succeed in life is an undying legacy that he left for his family. He loved life, was an avid reader, was very humble and embraced friendships. He is survived by his wife of 10 ½ years, Lina M. Centeno-Gutierrez; his children Veronica Gutierrez of Merida, Yucatan, Mexico, Maria Echeverria (Luis), Carlos R. Gutierrez (Estela) of Dixon, Maggie Gutierrez of Whittier; and step-children, Rudy E. Centeno (Anita) of San Jose, Mercedes C. Parker (Robert) of Sacramento, Manuel C. Centeno of Enid, OK, Letty Centeno, and Sylvia Centeno of Dixon. Jose is also survived by 14 grandchildren/18 step-grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren/23 step-great-grandchildren, and 3 step-great-great-grandchildren. Jose was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Irma C. Gutierrez and his son, Jose L. Gutierrez (Lucelly). A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 16, at 10 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 105 S. 2nd St, Dixon.
