Obituary for Jose D. Reyes

Jose D. Reyes, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, Oct 21, 2022 in Fairfield, CA. He was born on March 8 in Lingayen, a town of Pangasinan in the Philippines, to Francisco “Angging” and Francisca (Diaz) Reyes. In 1954, Jose married the love of his life, Estelita in Labrador, a town of Pangasinan, Philippines.

Soon after, he enlisted into the US Navy in 1955 and has served faithfully for 20 years. Following his retirement in 1975, he pursued his Bachelor's Degree at the University of Baguio, Philippines and upon graduating, he continued his career with the Military Sealift Command for another 15 years. Jose loved to tell stories to his children and grandchildren of his experiences from his military career. He was proud to have served. He had a passion for cooking and baking which he excelled at while serving during his Navy career. He also found interests in singing, watching wrestling matches on television and Filipino drama. His smile and stories showed his love for getting to know people and was an adventurous person who loved the ocean.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Estelita; daughters, Florida (married to Michael), Carolyn (married to Ralph), Grace (married to Richard), Julie (married to Mark); sons, Anthony (married to Lilia), Ernesto (married to Ma. Georgina) and Divino (married to Ma. Cherry); sisters, Imelda, Tita, Lolita, Susan; brothers, Cesar, Ric and Eddie; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides leaving behind many friends and family, he also leaves behind 27 Grandchildren, 20 Great Grandchildren and 2 Great Great Grandchildren.
