Obituary for John Lee Lape
John was born in Prineville, Oregon to Geraldine Ramona Eichman and Ray Samuel Lape on January 13, 1949. He passed away on April 1, 2018 surrounded by his loving family.
John proudly served in the United States Army, 173 rd Airborne Brigade and the 82 nd Airborne Division, Vietnam, 1968-1970. He received two Purple Hearts, Combat Infantryman and Parachute badges, National Defense Service and Vietnam Campaign medals, and a Bronze Star.
A love of children guided John to a teaching career that lasted 25 years. He retired from Redwood Middle School in Napa, CA in 2015. He will be fondly remembered along with “Mr. Wall” by the many students who benefitted from his kind and consistent support and encouragement.
He is survived by his wife, Susan; son, John Michael; daughter Lena Rae (Richard) Bailey; stepsons, Mark and John (Sylvia) Wendland; grandchildren Shelby, Carly and Scarlett Bailey, Andruw, Christopher, Samuel and Hannah Wendlund; brother, Jerry; sister, Denise (William) Riccuti; nieces, Mia and Angelina Ricciuti; and numerous extended family members.
Services with military honors will be held on Thursday, April 19, 2018 at 1pm at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Road, Dixon, CA 95620.
