Obituary for John Henry Chartier

John Henry Chartier was born January 30th, 1940 in Springfield, MA to parents John Leo Chartier and Flora Edna Black. He passed away peacefully in his sleep August 30, 2023 in Crescent City, CA.


He was the eldest of seven children.


He joined the U.S. Navy in November 1957 and attended The Navel War College in Newport Rhode Island. He served in the Vietnam war and retired as a Chief Warrant Officer 3 in June 1976. He spent his time after the military with his late wife, LaJuan, in Vacaville, CA. He collected old radios, perused garage sales and was a true computer whiz who could disassemble and rebuild any computer. His greatest pastime was joining his good buddies for coffee and conversation at Panera three times a week. In 2022 he moved to Crescent City, CA with his stepdaughter and son-in-law Teresa Marie and Whitney Smith.


He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Raymond Chartier, Ramona Chartier, Ralph S. Chartier, Ronald (Ronnie) Leo Chartier, and Christine Chartier, and wife LaJuan Newcomb Chartier.


He is survived by his sister Carol DaCosta, children Debra Ann Reed of Maricopa AZ,

Donna Marie Chartier of Oklahoma City, OK, and John Henry Chartier JR., of San Francisco, CA., six grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.


John Henry will be interred with his late wife in the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Rd., Dixon, CA. May they continue their journey together forever.
