Obituary for John Charles Eddy
Lt. Colonel John Charles Eddy of Vacaville passed away at age 82 on March 6, 2015. He was born on Timm Road, Vacaville, on April 30, 1932. His parents were Agnes Satori Wiley and John Hollis Wiley. He adopted the last name of his step-father, Clarence E. Eddy, after the death of his father. John attended Vacaville schools and Sacramento City College. Later he obtained his BA at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. After getting his AA degree at SCC, he joined the Air Force and married his high school sweetheart, Pearl Berkstresser. For 25 years he served the military, attending many training schools, and being stationed at many bases. He was a radar technician in Germany, and in Vietnam he navigated on night missions in the B57 Canberra. His favorite assignment was as a master navigator in Alaska where he enjoyed fishing, hunting and snowmobiling. His hobbies included gardening, caring for his fruit orchard, traveling, hunting, fishing and camping. He especially enjoyed visiting with family and friends and telling exciting hunting and fishing tales. John leaves behind his wife of 62 years; three children: Charles, Cheryl and Forrest (Virginia); four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He also leaves his sister, Mary Olson, and many nieces and nephews. Two sisters and one brother preceded him in death. John will be laid to rest at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery after a military funeral to be held there on Friday, March 13, at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to your favorite charity.
