We honor the life and memory of a kind, loving, and thoughtful man. Born in Everett, WA to Helen and J.H. “Hank” Minkler, John graduated from Oregon State university. He joined the U.S. Air Force and his tours included 111 combat missions over Vietnam. John also served for 8 years as Airfield Manager at Travis AFB, CA. After his retirement as a LtCol, John worked as an Airport Manager, and then as an Airport Executive and Security Administrator for the Sacramento County Department of Airports. Sailing his sailboat on San Francisco Bay was one of John’s favorite activities. He also enjoyed singing, dancing, hiking, skiing, flying small planes, and handyman projects. John was the Facility Coordinator at Unity Church (Spiritual Center) for 15 years. John is survived by his wife Gayle, and sons Scott and Douglas (wife Cathy). He is also survived by his sisters Anne Lee and Mary Lynne (Bill) Ball, brother Larry (Pam) Minkler, sister and brother-in-law Sharry and Larry Nelson, and numerous and nephews. A committal service will be held at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery on July 20, 2022, at 9:30am followed by a Celebration of Life at Vacaville Unity Spiritual Center at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations to be made to donor’s favorite charity in John’s memory.
