Obituary for Jim H. Santos
Jim H. Santos
Resident of Woodland, CA.
April 4, 1941 – Feb 3, 2019

Jim Santos, 77, passed away on Sunday from complications of diabetes. He was a beloved father and husband whose humor and kindness was felt by many.

Jim was born in Crystal City, Texas but grew up in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. Out of high school, he was the first Hispanic to integrate the Scottsbluff Fire Department. After moving to California with his bride, Naomi, he held many eclectic jobs including horticulture where he worked with a team to develop commercial varieties of kiwi fruit. He also worked at AT&T as a supervisor where he retired after 35 years.

As a young man Jim participated in the Golden Gloves, an amateur boxing organization. In addition to being a boxing fan, Jim was also a 49er “Faithful,” and was often seen wearing a 49er baseball cap. When not working, Jim enjoyed reading sci-fi, horror, and mystery novels. Jim passed along this love of reading to his children, nieces, and nephews. When not reading, Jim enjoyed watching classic horror and monster movies. Jim’s most enjoyed passtime was watching monster movies with his grandson, Brandon.

Jim’s love and affinity for making children happy led him to volunteer for many years as a seasonal Santa Claus, especially in areas that benefitted from having a Spanish-speaking Santa. His dedication to the role led him to obtain his own costume in order to further enhance the experience for the children at Christmas.

Jim is survived by his wife of 59 years, Naomi, children, Richard, and Lela, and grandson, Brandon. He’s also survived by his three brothers; David, Daniel and Abel, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Private services will be held by the family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be
made at the American Diabetes Association in Jim’s name.
