Obituary for Jerome Morrison
After a brave battle with cancer, Jerome 'Jerry' Harold Morrison died on May 22, 2015 in Vacaville, Calif., at the age of 54. He leaves behind his wife, Heidi J. Morrison (Minear); son Nathan Morrison; step daughter, Rebecca Six; son in law, Garrett Six; grandson, Gavin Six. Jerry was born at home on Jan. 22, 1961 in Glassboro, N.J., to father Jerome E. Morrison and mother Mary L. Bright, who both predeceased him. He grew up in a large, loving family with six sisters and two brothers. Jerry joined the United States Air Force in 1980 after graduating from Pitman High School in Pitman, N.J. While in the service, he traveled to Texas, Illinois, New Jersey, Japan, Holland, and finally to California. After honorably serving his county for 20 years and keeping with his great sense of humor, Jerry chose to retire on April Fool's Day in 2000. He was awarded many awards and decorations for his faithful service. Upon retiring, Jerry decided to stay on the left coast and bought a home in Vacaville, Calif. Jerry married Heidi J. Quist on Aug. 31, 2006. Shortly after their marriage, Jerry started his second career with BNSF Railroad where he rose to the position of engineer. The life of a railroad engineer quickly became Jerry's passion, second only to his love of the Dallas Cowboys. When diagnosed with lung cancer in Oct. 2014, he remained dedicated in his work and in his will to fight his illness. He remained a brave, iron-willed man, even throughout his final months. Jerry is survived by his wife, Heidi; sons, Michael and Nate; sisters, Linda Sidenstick (Pete), Debbie Friebel (Bill), Penny Kiernan (Jim), Linda Grover (Bill), Kim Conover (Wayne), Marybeth Bechtold; brothers, Kevin Venable (Jane) and Keith Morrison (Teresa); numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents. The family would especially like to thank the staff of VacaValley Hospital for their constant, attentive treatment and the McCune and Kelly Funeral Homes, for making the arrangements. A Memorial will be held on the left coast at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 28, 2015, at McCune Garden Chapel, 212 Main St, Vacaville, Calif. There will be a Memorial service on the right coast at Kelly Funeral Home, 125 Pitman Ave, Pitman, N. J. at a later date. Jerry requested to be cremated. His ashes will be interred at the family plot in Hillcrest Memorial Park, 550 Delsea Drive, Pitman, N.J. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to The National Lung Cancer Foundation.
