Jeanette Eileen (Kuehn) Schneider passed away peacefully at 97 years old, with family present on January 3, 2026. She was born at Rice, Minnesota in 1928, the baby of five daughters to Lena Gaumnitz and Wesley Kuehn. She graduated from Sauk Rapid High School in Minnesota, where she was a cheerleader and then worked as a telephone switchboard operator.
Jeanette was married for 61 years to Herman Joseph Schneider (Red) whom she met on a blind date. They settled in St Cloud, Minnesota and later moved to California to get away from the snow and for better job opportunities. They had four boys and three girls. Two of the girls, both named Eileen, died when only a couple days old, and it was a very difficult time in her life. They raised their kids in El Cerrito, California and upon retirement moved to Leisure Town in Vacaville, California. Jeanette was a full-time mom for most of her life. The guiding principle that she raised her kids by was the Golden Rule. “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”
In later years she became active in the Leisure Town Community, taking leadership roles in several of the community clubs, including working at the library. She enjoyed reading, painting ceramics, jigsaw puzzles, embroidering, organizing her home, and going to the casino and playing the slot machines with her daughter-in-law.
The happiest years of her life were spent at Le Trianon Resort at Blue Lake, California, where she and her husband had a permanent trailer for many years and made many lifelong friends. Jeanette cherished these summers, often surrounded by family and friends in the beautiful lakeside setting.
Jeanette is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her sisters Adeline Baldwin (Carl), Leona Chegwyn (Norman), Myrtle Page (Clifton), Ruby Johnson (Rolly), and her two newborn daughters. She is survived by five of her children, Wade Schneider (Jennet), Gail Frederick (Larry), Neil Schneider (Aida), Joel Schneider, and James Schneider (Maria). She has 21 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.
Many thanks to the wonderful and caring staff at Cornerstone Assisted Living in Vacaville, where she spent the last few years of her life in her cheery apartment. The family is grateful for the compassion and support shown by the staff to Jeanette throughout her stay.
Memorial Contributions can be made to the Huntington Disease Society of America, a condition of which her father and a sister had died.
