Obituary for Jean L. Brazelton

Jean L. Brazelton left us February 16, 2026. She is survived by her four children, Bruce (Carol), Michael (Linda), Janet (Lance), and Hutson (Liz), eleven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Jean was known locally as the "peach lady" as she sold fresh peaches and other fruit from the family farm. Jean was a Minnesota native who bought her first home in Vacaville in the 1950s. After marrying local farmer and rancher Eugene Brazelton, she became a traditional farm wife making butter from the milk cow and feeding her family from her large garden. Jean was a prolific home canner and her family's nightly dessert was canned peaches, apricots, pears, or cherries.

Although Jean was the valedictorian of her small Minnesota town's high school, she did not attend college until her middle years, receiving straight A’s at Solano Community College while earning her Associates degree in Agricultural Business. Jean then spent many years as a statistical enumerator for the National Association of the States Departments of Agriculture. Whether interviewing flower growers in Half Moon Bay or rice farmers in Yolo county, Jean earned a reputation as the most reliable enumerator of the Sacramento office. If a farmer didn't return his survey, Jean was the woman to send to get the needed information.

Jean was a member of the Vacaville Museum and enjoyed attending Vaca Valley Garden Club meetings and socializing with her fellow Bethany Lutheran Church members. Jean has been honored by the Solano County Farm Bureau and the Solano Land Trust for her contributions to the continuation of the American family farm.

The family will hold a private ceremony to memorialize Jean. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to one of the following organizations: Vacaville Museum, Solano Land Trust, Bethany Lutheran Ministries (school or church), or the Vaca Valley Garden Club.
