Obituary for James Elkins
Jim Elkins was born in Berkeley to Allison and Caswell Elkins. He graduated from Berkeley High School in 1957 and continued his education at the University of Pacific, following in the footsteps of his brother Don. He went to work for the Berkeley Police Department for two years after his college graduation. He decided he wanted to teach, and had a 37-year career teaching mainly in the Travis Unified School District.
Jim developed a love for fly fishing and spent 42 summers in his beloved Yellowstone National Park. He also loved his cars and owned approximately one hundred cars in his lifetime from a 1930 Model A Ford to a 1956 Mercedes Benz 300SL Gull-Wing. He also loved collecting western art paintings which was his hobby after his 1999 retirement from teaching.
Jim spent his last five years living at Paramount House. A thanks to the staff and caregivers with kudos to Noel, Jolene, and Rei-An.
Jim is survived by his brother David of Vacaville and niece Cynthia of Sunnyvale. He was preceded in death by his mother Allison, his father Caswell, and his older brother Donald.
At Jim’s request, there will be no service. Donations should be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the charity of your choice.
