Obituary for Jacquelyn Ruth Shockey
Jacquelyn Ruth (Drake) Shockey passed away peacefully at her home in Vacaville, CA on May 20, 2019 at the age of 84.
She was born on August 20, 1934 to Jack and Katie Drake in Trinidad, Colorado. They had two children, Jackie and Glenn. Her family moved out to California in the 1940’s and her mother and father built their house on a small piece of property in a quiet neighborhood in El Sobrante, CA. Jackie attended Richmond High School where she met her first husband Manferd Dunham, they fell in love and were married on June 23, 1951 in Napa, CA. They lived in El Sobrante and later in Pinole and had four children together, Gary, Janet, Michael and Greg. Jackie was a stay at home mother dedicated to raising her children. Jacquelyn and Manferd divorced in 1970 after 19 years of marriage.
Jacquelyn remarried on October 8, 1972 in Berkeley, CA to Harry Shockey, continued raising her children and started working at Mechanics Bank in Richmond, CA.
Jacquelyn and Harry were happily married for 7 years until Harry passed away in 1979 from cancer and she never remarried.
Jacquelyn loved being a grandmother and a great grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, great grandchildren, family, and friends. She always made sure to have snacks, particularly Oreo cookies, stocked in her pantry when her grandchildren came over. In her younger years she enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing, reading, socializing at luncheons, taking care of her beloved cats, and volunteering for various local organizations and businesses.
Jacquelyn is survived by her brother Glenn (Peggy) Drake, and her 4 children; Gary (Judy) Dunham, Janet Salgado, Mike (Carolyn) Dunham, Greg (Teri) Shockey, 9 grandchildren; Gary (Sarah) Dunham, Kevin (Kaperie) Dunham, Melanie (Jeremy) Hunt, Valerie (Donny) Gollihar, Charlene Grimes, Chris Dunham, Carly (Larry) Williams, Jennifer Shockey, Sierra Shockey, and 10 great grandchildren; Justin Gollihar, Caden Gollihar, Jace Gollihar, Jessie Chong, Allyson Hunt, Julian Dunham, Annaka Dunham, Evelyn Dunham, Eric Huckabee, Taven Williams.
