Obituary for Irene Jones
Nov. 5 at the age of 88. She was born in 1926, in Clarinda Iowa, to the late Vernon and Jessie Milligan. As a young girl she traveled with her family to settle in California, in the Sonoma area, where she met her future husband, Alvie Jones. She graduated from Sonoma High School in 1945, worked briefly at Mare Island, and a few years later married Alvie. They came to Napa to buy their first home and raise their three children. Irene, foremost a homemaker, but did work briefly at Napa State Hospital Credit Union and the Veterans Administration Office, in Napa. She was Pueblo Vista's first PTA president when the elementary school first opened in the early 1950's. Throughout her life, she had a passion for roller skating, and did so, as often as she could up until the age of 77 years. Irene and Alvie moved to Foresthill in the early 80's, where they built their dream home and lived there until 2009, when Alvie became ill. This took them to Maui in 2006, where they lived in Lahaina, close to their son, David, for over three years. In September of 2009 they came back to California to live in the assisted living communities of Fairfield and Vacaville, where Irene was known as 'the lady with the flower in her hair'. Irene is survived by her sons, David Jones (Lynn) of Anderson, SC, Steve Jones (Pat) of Boulder Creek, CA, and daughter, Linda Bates (David) of Vacaville, CA; one brother, Samuel Milligan of Napa, CA, plus eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her husband, Alvie, and other siblings, Vern Milligan, Rose Dow and Donald Milligan. There will be a short memorial service on Monday, Nov. 17 at 10:30 a.m., at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon
