Obituary for Iluminada Campoy Campos
Iluminada Campoy Campos, 77 of Vacaville, met her creator and was reunited with her mother and father, Juana and Manuel Campoy on May 30th, 2021. She passed peacefully with many family by her side. She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years Juan Campos. Inseparable sisters Maria Garcia (Diego) and Juana Perez (Andres). Devoted Mama of Frank Campos (Angela) and Anna Campos Pehl (Martin). Proud Yaya to Amanda, Rachel, Emily, and Maya. Caring Chacha to many nieces & nephews including Frank G, Juani, Manolo, and Mari who were just like her own kids. She loved all of her family unconditionally and will be greatly missed.
Iluminada was born in Las Moletas de Lubrin, a close knit farming village in Almeria, Spain and was working from the time she could walk. We heard stories about how she got up early in the morning to work the fields and went to a one room school house in the evening. And when we complained about eating onions she would tell us that was all she had to eat sometimes. Life was hard in Spain in those years and in the 1960s and 1970s most left Las Moletas for better opportunities. Iluminada left for America with her husband and son in 1970 to reunite with the rest of the family. She worked just as hard here so her children could have all the opportunities she didn’t including a higher education. Holidays were the best when Abuela and the Campoy sisters brought Spanish traditions and food including “churros” at Thanksgiving, “roscas”at Christmas, and “buñuelos” at Easter. They were always loud and filled with love and laughter.
