Obituary for Howard Ray Endicott-Gardner
On April 24, Howard Ray Endicott-Gardner made his last and best pole vault, landing in the Kingdom of Heaven.Born May 1, 1949, Topeka, KS, Howard traveled throughout the states through his stepfathers many job transfers. He finally ended up in Salt Lake City, UT, where he was able to finally get to show his talent in the pole vault. There in his senior year at Skyline High School, he set the record that held for many years. Howard also played baseball, basketball and even some football. He obtained scholarships to numerous colleges for his vaulting, ending up at Montana State. He majored in Phys ED, but after graduation he instead worked in construction.Howard eventually moved to the Vacaville area. There his love of sports took him in many directions. His biggest thrill was coaching his son James in his first T-ball experience. And what an experience it wasfun, fun, fun. There he also met his wife, Suzie. Her daughter, Tiffany, was on the team. They claim it was love at first sight. Next Howard tried something new, coaching his youngest daughter Jackies soccer team. Although he did not have much experience at soccer they had a great time and it was wonderful watching him bond with Jackie.Howard lived life to the fullest. He played softball up until his death. His last couple of years took him to his wifes and childrens Alma Mater, Vacaville High School, where he finally did what he truly loved and was meant to docoach pole vault. His success was wonderful as he watched his kids soar higher and higher at the track meets. He would like to say a special thanks to Reed, Nikki, Tracy and Barbara.Howard is survived by his loving wife and Chief Cheerleader, Suzie; daughter Nicole; granddaughters, Chloe, Taylor and Katie; son and daughter-in-law James and Leah and their 3 children, Shelby; Carol and baby Seth; his beautiful daughters, Jackie and Tiffany Van.He also leaves behind his mother, Kathryn Gardner; sisters and brothers-in-law, Debi and Bill, Pam and Ted, Vicki, Marie and Phil, Laura and John, Patty and Fred; brothers and sister-in-law, Danny and Renee and Jeff; Step-mother Mary and many nieces and nephews.In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Vacaville High School Quarterback Club to help keep the athletic program going at the school.Visitation will be held May 3, 5 - 8 p.m. at McCune Garden Chapel with Graveside Service on May 4, 10 a.m. at Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery. Please dress casual in your favorite sports team wear
