Obituary for Herlinda 'Chita' Ramirez
Herlinda “Chita” Ramirez passed away at Kaiser Vacaville surrounded by her family on November 21st. Born on March 23, 1915 to Francisco Calisto Dela Riva and Maria de Jesus Cortez. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sebastian “Mike” Ramirez and siblings, Gabriel, Aurelia, Trinidad, Philip and Elaine. She is survived by her sister, Rachael Cabral of Walnut Creek; daughter, Jessie Rooney of Grass Valley and son, Michael Ramirez of San Pablo. Also survived by 7 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren. Herlinda was born in Durango, Mexico. The family moved to El Paso, TX when she was a baby. Her father worked for Santa Fe Railroad. After a few years the railroad moved the family to Richmond, CA. The family then moved to Berkeley. Herlinda grew up in West Berkeley on 7th St. She became a cannery worker for Del Monte and worked her way up to Head Floor Lady before she retired. She worked there 35 years. Herlinda and her husband Sebastian lived in Berkeley for a while before settling in Albany in 1946. Herlinda loved Nations Hamburgers, John Wayne, all music but especially Mexican, country, Frank Sinatra and Elvis. She also loved plants of all kinds but African Violets were her specialty Viewing will be held on Monday, December 1st at 10am with a Mass of Christian Burial being celebrated immediately following at 10:30am, both at St. Ambrose Church, 1145 Gilman St., Berkeley (Albany)
