Obituary for Herbert Charles Thomas
Herbert Charles Thomas of Vacaville passed away Wednesday in Sacramento at the age of 62.Herbert was born in Middletown, OH to Paul and Minnie Thomas. Herbert served in the U.S. Army from Feb. 16, 1966 to Oct. 15, 1968. His military service included: Vietnam service for 1 year, 1 mo. and 11 days, heavy vehicle driver carrying Nitroglycerin, Co. D 36th Engineer Battalion Construction, Co. D 69th Engineer Battalion Construction USAR PAC, Corps III Vung Tau, Vietnam, Corps IV Can Tho & Soc Trang, Vietnam. Medals awarded: National Defense Service Medal, Sharpshooter M-14, Marksman Rifle M-16, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal. Herbert loved to drive. He had driven a truck since he was 12 years old and for the past 15 years has been employed as a driver for Basalite Concrete Products of Dixon. He also enjoyed bowling, camping, fishing, square dancing and round dancing.Survivors include his wife Fran; children, Sonia Rene Thomas (Chris) Potter of AL, Bobby Lee Thomas of CO; step-children, Ross Franklin (Sheila) Ridler of KY, Rod Glen (Kathy) Ridler of CA; 2 granddaughters; 3 step-granddaughters, 3 step-great-granddaughters; brothers, George Michael (Charlene) Thomas of OH, Ronald William (Alice) Thomas of OH; 6 nieces; 5 nephews; 8 great-nieces; 10 great-nephews; 9 great-great-nieces and 11 great-great-nephews. He was preceded in death by parents, Paul Vincent Thomas and Minnie Mable Knott; brothers, Paul Robert (Cora)Thomas, Carl Eugene (Carolyn) Thomas; sister Mary Bertha Branham.Service will be held Friday, Dec. 31 at 9:30 a.m. at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery.
