Gloria E. Martinez passed away July 15. 2022 after a long illness of Dementia. Gloria was born in Jerome, Arizona to Acension and Alicia Encinias on January 4, 1944. Gloria grew up in Crockett, CA and graduated from John Swett High School. She married John Martinez in June 1962. They had 3 sons together, Johnny, Paul and Todd. They lived in Crockett and then later moved to their home in Richmond, Ca. where Gloria resided until her illness happened.
Gloria worked for many years as a Manager at Pacific Stereo in Emeryville, Ca. She later worked for Prudential Insurance Co. in Richmond and then retired in 2009 from the City of Richmond as IT Director.
Gloria was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles of Richmond, Ca and El Cerrito, CA for over 30 years. She was honored to be sworn in as Madam President on June 11, 1983 and served in several other Officer roles over the years. The Eagles lodge was her second home, where she would cook for all of the charity fund raising events. Her favorite event was the annual Children’s Christmas pancake breakfast and party. She would do all of the shopping for the presents and spend hours perfectly wrapping and labeling each present. Once her granddaughters were all grown up, she recruited them to assist with this event.
Gloria loved being a grandmother and always made sure that her grandchildren had anything they might need. She will always be known for being a great cook and for keeping an immaculate house. She will be forever missed and in our hearts.
