Obituary for Geral "Gerry" Dixon
On April 9, Gerald (Gerry) A. Dixon, Major USAF (Retired) departed on his final flight home. Gerry fought a valiant fight against a relentless and lengthy illness, but passed quietly surrounded by family, friends, and caregiver, Sophie Catanesi. Gerry was born on Feb. 4, 1932 in Klamath Falls, OR to Wilfred and Savilla Dixon. He was 84 years old at the time of his passing. Gerry is survived by Peggy, his wife of 40 years; sister, Shirley Long of Klamath Falls, OR; daughters, Christy Hamlin of Prineville, OR, Dawn Dulley and Linda Ames of Vacaville; son, Larry Davis of Reno, NV; sister-in-law, Margaret Gibson of San Antonio, TX; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by daughter, Gerie Dixon, son, Scott Davis; brother, Orville Dixon and grandson, Justin Nevenzell.
Gerry was a decorated fighter pilot during the Vietnam era and later piloted the KC-135 Stratotanker with the Strategic Air Command while stationed at Travis AFB, CA. Gerry retired from the Air Force in 1979 after 24 years of distinguished service settling in Vacaville. Gerry was truly an officer and a gentleman.
Memorial services will be held on Monday, May 2 at 11 a.m., at the Valley Church, 5063 Maple Road, Vacaville with a reception following. Interment with full military honors will commence at 3 p.m., at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Road, Dixon. The family wishes to thank the North Bay Hospice for their exceptional care and kindness. Funeral arrangements are under the care of McCune Garden Chapel, Vacaville.
