Obituary for Gene Nelson Windham
In today’s world of ever-changing values where nearly everything is disposable, Gene was a rarity. He was a devoted family man, remaining married to the love of his life “Patty Lou” who he married only three months after their first date in 1968. Gene and Pat were married for forty-three years. Gene is survived by his wife and their three children—Steve Windham, Amy Isaac (husband Mike Isaac), and Matt Windham (wife Kim), seven grandchildren—Jacob and Noah Windham, Nate, Gabe, Mary, Andy, and Hope Isaac, his sisters Linda Morgan and Donna Lish, and his brother Ed Windham. Gene was a Veteran, serving in the United States Air Force, completing a tour of duty in Vietnam. After his honorable discharge from the military, Gene continued his education at Cal Poly (San Luis Obispo) completing his accounting degree, eventually becoming a CPA and attorney. Gene was a man of many talents and interests, and he passionately enjoyed flying airplanes, SCUBA diving, hiking, and bicycling with family and friends. He passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on May 19, 2012 while cycling at an organized event with friends in Lincoln, California. Gene will be affectionately remembered by many for his friendship and generosity. Gene was active in many charitable causes, and was a devoted volunteer at Vacaville’s Lawyer in the Library program. Gene was a mentor and friend to many. There will be a celebration of his life at Crossroads Christian Church where Gene and his wife attended. Crossroads is located at 190 Butcher Road, Vacaville, California on Thursday, May 24, 2012 at 11:00AM. Tel: (707) 446-9838. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to any of Gene’s favorite charities: Mission Solano, Union Gospel Mission of Sacramento, Salvation Army, Operation Smile, Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano, and Heifer International. Gene loved the Lord, and is as the scripture promises “…to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.” Gene has gone home to be with our Lord and Savior. “Euge serve bone et fidelis.”
