Obituary for Gary Richard Weaver
Gary’s long battle with cancer ended at his home Thursday, Dec. 12. His wife of 54 years, Marilyn, was with him until the end. He was 75 years old. It was Gary’s third bout of cancer. A disease he fought until less than two weeks before he died. Gary was predeceased by his son, Michael. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; daughter, and son-in-law, Laura and Jon; daughter-in-law, Julie; grandsons, Kyle, Preston, Paul, and Lee as well as his brother-in-law, Jerold and nephews, Jerry, Tom, Benjie and their families. Gary graduated from Kaiserslautern High School in Germany in 1956 and joined the Naval Reserves later that year. He went active duty in the Navy in 1958 and transferred to the Air Force in 1960. Gary was a supervisor for the 60th Avionic Maintenance Squad at Travis AFB when he retired on Dec. 31, 1978. He worked in the private sector and then returned to finish his college education graduating from CSU Sacramento with a Bachelor of Sciences in 1984. He taught at C.A. Jacobs Middle School in Dixon for 12 years, retiring for good in 1997. Beginning in 1980 Gary was a founding member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Vacaville and served in many different positions at the church including president, treasurer, and mutual ministry. He went on mission trips to Mexico with the church and led a small group Bible study in his home up until his death. When his son, Michael was a teenager, Gary was a Boy Scout leader for Troop #800. He was very active as a volunteer Master Gardener for Solano County for 10 years and tutored in the Solano County Literacy Program. As a fourth generation California whose great-great grandfather lead a wagon train to the state in 1856 (and whose diary is in the state library), Gary was very interested in genealogy and extensively traced his family roots. He combined genealogy with his love of travel and literally followed the trail that led his family to California. His travels led him all over the United States and the world, traveling with his wife Marilyn, but also with friends and family members. He visited all seven continents. Gary will be buried at the National Cemetery in Dixon with full military honors.

Service: A memorial service will be held at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 580 Trinity Drive, Vacaville on Saturday, Jan. 4 at 2 p.m.
