Obituary for Frederick Joseph Kearney
Fred passed away February 9th, 2015 in Folsom, CA at the age of 78. He was the second child born to Charles and Minerva Kearney on a ranch near Dixon, CA. He attended Davis High School graduating in 1954. After attending the University of California at Berkeley as an engineering student he signed on with the Air Force Cadet program. He served for 22 years in the military first as a bomber pilot where he was awarded a Flying Cross medal in Vietnam and then in Mississippi and Texas as a T-38 flight instructor. After discharge from the military he resided in Sacramento County for 36 years. He earned a Bachelor’s degree from Sacramento State University and continued his love of learning by travelling the world, reading good books and doing research at the library. His special interests were California history, nature, and current events. He was a sports fan and enjoyed being close to nature at the family mountain cabin and at his sister’s rural home. Fred is survived by brothers David (Carol) and Mark (Linda), sisters Naudine Ortega, Carol Kearney, Linda (Art) Fortis as well as nephews, nieces and cousins. His parents preceded him in death. Services will be held at Saint Peter’s Catholic Church 105 2nd Street, Dixon at noon on Monday, February 23rd. Internment will follow at the Veteran’s Cemetery in Dixon. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to your favorite charity.
