Obituary for Fred Ryozo Nakatani
Fred Ryozo Nakatani, 78 of Vacaville passed away November 9. He was born in Concord on March 14, 1940.
Fred moved to Vacaville in 1945, attending Vacaville schools and graduating from Vaca High in 1958. Fred spent many years working and managing local fruit orchards in nearby ranches. His career work was as a Water Tender for Solano Irrigation District for 26 years, retiring in 2005.
Fred was an outdoorsman at heart. He loved camping and fishing, but his passion was diving for abalone. Fred also had a green thumb and loved tending to his many vegetable gardens and plants. He also had a passion for birds and waterfowl. Building aviaries and raising parakeets was a hobby he enjoyed with his wife of 40 years, Kathleen Nakatani.
Fred is survived by his wife, Kathleen; daughter Verlene Nakatani; granddaughter Pearlani Nevarez (Andy); great-grandson Emerick; great-granddaughter Kaleia Navarez; niece/stepdaughter Lisa McKim (Jim); grandson Jesse; nephew/stepson Richard Nakatani; three granddaughters, Ashley, Sierra and Cheyenne; Stepson, Michael LaRocco (Annie); grandchildren, Victor, Kara and Tony; sister Yoshiko Sanchez; brother Harry Nakatani (Dolores); and sister in-law Terry Nakatani. “Uncle Fred” is also survived by many nieces, nephews, including great and great-great nieces and nephews and beloved cat, Bonnie. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Yoshigusu and Kimiyo Nakatani; brothers, Jun, Yoshio, Dick and Robert; sisters Yaeko McCrum and Satoyo Fittro-Dunkinson.
Visitation will be held for Thursday, November 15th, 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm and Funeral Service will be held Friday, November 16th at 11:00 am. A private interment will be held at a later date.
