Obituary for Frank Ropiak Jr.
DIXON, CALIFORNIA - Frank John Ropiak II., 77, passed away Thursday, January 15, 2015. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, January 22 at 11 A.M. at Sacramento National Cemetery, Dixon California. Public viewing will be held on Wednesday, January 21 from 5 – 8 PM at Milton Carpenter Funeral Home, Dixon CA. Frank was born in Penns Grove, New Jersey in 1937 to Frank Ropiak and Frances Liebecki Ropiak. He attended the United States Coast Guard Academy from 1955-1959, where he excelled at football and boxing. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering. He married Martha Jane Adams in 1963 and had 4 children, Emily, Frank III, Richard and Louis. Frank retired from USCG with a Letter of Commendation and a National Defense Service Medal. In the early days of the nuclear submarine program in Mare Island Shipyard he participated in the construction of many of the early Nautilus class submarines. In the 1970s Captain Ropiak was hired by United States Steel supervising construction and modernization of their antiquated fleet. During that time he was also reserve commander of the great lakes USCG fleet. He retired as a Port Engineer out of Military Sealift Command in Oakland, CA. Frank had a gregarious, fun-loving spirit and enjoyed traveling the world, fishing, gardening and spending time with close friends and family. He was active in the Moose Lodge and American Legion. Frank devoted his life to service of his country, friends and relatives in need. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations have been suggested to Wounded Warriors.
