Obituary for Florence Marian Blanz Wells
Florence Wells, a resident of Vacaville, passed away at home after a short illness. Florence was born in Allegan Michigan to Christine and Carl Blanz, the 5th of 6 children. Known to her family as “Toots,” she graduated from Allegan High School in 1939 and while in school was a favorite waitress at Hargies Restaurant and the local Yacht Club. She worked as a Loan Officer for Household Finance prior to her marriage in 1950 to John Wells of Tamaroa Illinois who was a U.S. Airforce Flight Engineer. As an Airforce wife she created a wonderful home for her husband and two children while supporting her husband’s military career as the family was relocated numerous times throughout the United States. Her husband retired and the family settled in Vacaville in 1965. After the death of her husband in 1967, Florence resumed her career with Household Finance in 1970. Upon her retirement in 1986, she remained active, walking three miles a day and joining her special friends, “The Coffee Shop Group,” weekday mornings at Queen’s Donuts. Florence was known for her volunteerism and community activities and as such was recognized by the Vacaville Arts Council “Salute to the Stars” in 2010 for her contributions to the Saturday Club where she was a member for 49 years and served on the Board of Directors and as president in 1976. Florence was a active member of her church Community United Presbyterian where she served as an Elder and greeter, helped with Sunday school and participated with Ruth Circle. For many years she played bridge with a local group, worked with the Festival of Trees, was a member of the Vacaville Museum and Guild, and Credit Women’s International. Florence especially enjoyed spending time with her brothers and sisters over the years on Lake Michigan. She was a loving and supporting wife and mother known for her warm, fun-loving personality, vitality, positive attitude, and “phenomenal” smile.
Florence is survived by her daughter Beth Wells, daughter-in-law Kristy Wells, granddaughter Elizabeth Scarrott (Joey), step-granddaughter Jennifer Tydinco (Dan), great granddaughter Sawyer Grace and step-great grandsons Michael and Steven, sister-in-law Ethel Blanz, many special nieces and nephews, and childhood friend Peggy Cook Weber. She is preceded in death by her parents Christine and Carl, and her siblings Helen, Jeane, Ray, Russell “Bud”, Robert “Bob,” husband John and son, Barry.
A visitation will take place at McCune Funeral Chapel from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on June 14 and service at Community United Presbyterian Church at 10:00 am on June 15. A reception is to follow. Contributions can be made to Vacaville Museum, Saturday Club, or Community United Presbyterian Church
