Obituary for Evelyn K. Martinelli
Evelyn Martinelli died on June 17 after a short intense battle with cancer.
She is survived by her husband, Tucker Martinelli; sons, Sgt. Carter Martinelli and Patrick Martinelli; her brother, John (Nan) Carter; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Pete and Lee Carter of Cordelia.
A descendent of a pioneer family, Evelyn was born at Kaiser Hospital in Vallejo and attended local schools in Cordelia, graduating from Armijo High School in 1963.
Careerwise, she worked for the Department of Agronomy at the University of California, Davis for almost 20 years. In 1988, she went into business for herself, Impressions in Paint. Evelyn did faux finishes, mostly for interior decorators and designers all over northern California. She was highly respected for her creativity and professionalism.
But her finest moments were in entertaining. Her parties were legendary. Known for her self-taught gourmet cooking skills, she could do a formal dinner, a shower, or a bash for 60 or more people. Her house would be beautifully decorated for the occasion. There would be wonderful food, lively conversations and people from 6 weeks to 80 years old. Turn on the music and Evelyn was ready to dance.
She will be remembered for her love of animals. She always had multiple pets - a few cats, a couple dogs, etc. Everywhere she went she made new animal friends. Pets always put on their best "show of shows" when Aunt Evie visited.
Evelyn was constantly on the go. In her travels, she fell in love with Mexico and Mexican folk art. Her home was full of many pieces she collected from these trips. "Mi casa es su casa" was never a truer saying.
She was known for her little Bay Area and Napa Valley day trips. Evelyn knew all the cool places - restaurants, shops, specialty stores and great views. She loved sharing these findings with her friends.
Evelyn will be sorely missed for her offbeat humor and wry observations. She was everybody's best friend and her phones were constantly ringing. She was so special, there will never be anyone like her.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her name be sent to the American Red Cross, the S.P.C.A. Yolo Hospice or a charity of your choice.
An outdoor celebration of life will be held on Sunday, June 27, at 10 a.m. For location and more information, contact Carter Martinelli (707) 326-6065, Patrick Martinelli (707) 330-3493, or Sheri Mendes (707) 449-9456.
