Obituary for Eugene Hutson Brazelton
Eugene was born on his family’s fruit and cattle ranch west of Vacaville and spent his entire life on the ranch he loved, working the fruit orchards and cattle, his favorite enterprise. Humble about his cowboy skills, Eugene told everyone, “All I ever wanted to be was a cowboy, but I never made it…I couldn’t sing.” Eugene was a natural storyteller and an oral historian of local area farms, families, and landmarks. He graduated from Vacaville High School in 1944, and for many years Eugene was active in organizations such as the Farm Bureau, Vacaville Grange, and Cattlemen’s Associations. He was also proud to have been a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows for over 50 years. Eugene is survived by his wife of 48 years, Jean, his three sons Bruce (Carol) of Napa, Michael (Linda) and Hutson (Elizabeth) of Vacaville, and daughter Janet Starck (Lance) of San Ramon. Eugene and Jean are blessed to have eight grandsons, three granddaughters, and one great-grandson. He was beloved by his family and will be greatly missed. A visitation will be held at McCune Garden Chapel in downtown Vacaville on Wednesday, May 1 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. A memorial service will be held Thursday, May 2 at 1:00 pm, also at McCune.
