Eugene (Gene) Joseph Morger
1935 - 2023
Eugene Joseph Morger was born on April 6, 1935 in San Francisco. He attended Most Holy Redeemer and Saint Ignatius High School. Gene completed some business courses at USF but joked at his HS reunion that he attended the “School of hard knocks” for college. People would say that he had a kind smile that made his bright blue eyes sparkle. After high school, Gene worked as an apprentice/lithographer before being drafted into the Army in May of 1958. He trained at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio and Fort Ord in Monterey before serving his country as a cook in South Korea. His active career was followed by 4 years in the reserves out of the Presidio in San Francisco finishing with the rank of Staff Sergeant. After his time of active duty, he started Swiss Miss Vending in San Mateo and successfully ran it until he retired some 40+ years later.
He met his wife Diane while attending the young adult club at St. Monica’s Catholic Church in San Francisco and married her on May 5, 1962. Together they raised five beautiful children in the city of San Mateo. He spent his free time fishing and camping with his family and friends in beautiful places like Burney Falls, Twin Lakes, and Yosemite. Gene loved to take weekend drives to enjoy a simple picnic and scenic beauty. He will always be remembered as an incredibly hard worker and a wonderful provider.
Eugene passed away on the morning of April 18, 2023 with family at his home in Vacaville having just celebrated his 88th birthday. He is preceded in death by his Father Severin Morger, his mother Marcella Morger (Sperry), his wife Diane Marie Morger (Resch) and his Sister-in-Law Joyce. He is survived by his brother Steve Morger of San Carlos, his children Greg (Maura), Maria, Brian (Ana), Monica Sloper (Tim), and Dan (Mandy); grandchildren Joshua (Haylee), Christopher (Kelly), Matthew, Alicia, Amanda, Dominique, Brenden, Briana, Hailey, Conor, Brooke, Fiona, Jack; and great-grandchildren Pearl, Zelda, and Atlas.
