Obituary for Elizabeth E. "Betty" Benz
Elizabeth E. “Betty” Benz passed on Wednesday August 11, 2021, in her 100th year, just shy of her centennial birthday.
Hailing from Oxford, Iowa, the eldest of 7 siblings, Betty is survived by her son Mike (Marie) Schropp of Ames, Iowa; daughter Laurie (John) Ballesteros of Vacaville; 4 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and her youngest brother, David Stratton of Vacaville. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Isaac Schropp; second husband Col. Robert A. Benz, USAF (ret) and her eldest daughter Lucille “Bobbie” McCoy.
With a strong, resolute will and determination steeped in tradition of a mid-west farmer, Betty was industrious in her many jobs and generous with her love for baking. She witnessed the many significant events of our national history in her 100 years. Among many of her interests and hobbies, Betty enjoyed RV-ing with her late husband Robert visiting with family and friends in Iowa, as well as the many places our nation has to offer and appreciate.
Betty will be laid to rest with her husband Robert A. Benz in Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, August 19 in a private interment. The family will be hosting a reception in Betty’s memory shortly after the interment. (Please contact the family for more information.)
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Betty’s memory to https://wreathproject.webs.com. The local Remember A Vet/Wreaths Across America holiday wreath campaign.
