Obituary for Elizabeth Chatterton
Elizabeth Chatterton went to be with the Lord in the early morning hours of July 2, 2019, at age 65 yrs. She was born Elizabeth Anne Wahlmeier in Santa Monica, CA on December 14, 1953 to parents Norbert and Mary Wahlmeier. She was the seventh of eleven children. Growing-up in Southern California, life was always busy with a house full of children. Elizabeth graduated from Monroe High School and completed some college. She relocated to the Bay Area of Northern California where she worked as a flight attendant for World Airways traveling both domestically and internationally. In the early 1980s she met a handsome Kiwi named John Chatterton. They fell in love and married in November of 1981 and honeymooned in John’s homeland of New Zealand. They welcomed their first daughter, Danielle, in November 1983 and moved to their first home in Stockton, CA shortly after. While in Stockton, the couple celebrated the arrival of three more children; Brittany in February 1986, Kristen in March 1988 and Thomas in May 1990. It was during this time that Elizabeth, raised Catholic, accepted the Lord as her Savior, thanks to the testimony and prayers of her older brother. In 1995, the Chatterton Family moved to Vacaville, CA where they reside today. Together, they built a lifetime of memories in a home filled with warmth and hospitality. Elizabeth loved children and was overjoyed to meet her first granddaughter, Sophia, in January 2019.
Some of Elizabeth’s proudest accomplishments were supporting her husband’s busy aviation career, nurturing and homeschooling her children and praying faithfully for her loved ones. Her devotion to the Lord was unwavering and she tried to represent Jesus to all those she encountered. She believed that life is purposeful; a tapestry woven by God’s sovereign love and grace. She was an avid reader of the Bible and Christian literature; she loved worship and always had uplifting music playing. She took joy in decorating for the holidays and making occasions, both big and small, memorable celebrations. She was a faithful friend and prolific card-writer which showcased her beautiful penmanship. She also loved to garden; she was well versed in botanical terms and she appreciated every bird that visited her yard. She spent a great deal of time on her relationships as she believed people matter most. She would call her immediate family, extended family and friends with words of affirmation and always took the opportunity to pray. She was full of laughter, kind-warmth and generosity. Her final days were spent joyfully in the home that she loved with her cherished husband, children and friends unaware of her terminal bone cancer diagnosis. Her legacy is one of loving memories and steadfast faith in Christ bringing comfort to us all.
She is preceded by her parents, Norbert and Mary Wahlmeier, her eldest sister, Theresa Hahn and several dear friends including Amy Sweany, Debbie Abeyta and Paula Dutra.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 37 1/2 years, John Chatterton; her daughters Danielle Czelusta (Zephrine Czelusta), Brittany Chatterton, MD, Kristen Gutierrez (Kyle Gutierrez); granddaughter Sophia Gutierrez; and her son, Thomas Chatterton.
A service celebrating her life will be Friday, July 12 at 12:30 in the afternoon at New Hope Christian Fellowship, 4910 Allison Parkway Vacaville, CA 95688. All who knew and loved Elizabeth are invited to attend. Burial and reception will immediately follow the service.
