Obituary for Elizabeth (Betty) Banks
Elizabeth (Betty) Banks, 72, of Vacaville, CA, a retired community college library technician, passed away at home on October, 5, 2014, after a long illness. She was the seventh of thirteen children born to the late Georgianna DeLily Webster and Daniel Forman Webster. A product of the New York City Public School system, Elizabeth’s career began in 1968 at Esso Corporation at 30 Rockefeller Center working in Administrative Services before transferring to Exxon Mobil Corporation's Tanker Division in Florham Park, NJ. She relocated to Vacaville, CA, in 1989. Elizabeth was a 19-year employee of Solano Community College. A member of several college employment committees, Elizabeth was most active with the African-American Staff Association, often serving as Grand Marshall of their student appreciation graduation ceremony. After the tragic death of her adopted daughter Allison in 2000, Elizabeth and her husband, Alfred, established the Allison Rael Banks Scholarship Fund For Needy Solano CC Students. Elizabeth received numerous awards and citations at Solano, including the college's Classified Employee of The Year Award in 2003. She retired in 2008 due to health reasons. She is survived by her loving husband and soul mate of 40 years, Alfred Russell Banks; her daughter Schadell (Michael) Connor of Trenton, N.J.; her daughter Gwendolyn Guirty, of Orange, NJ; her son Guy (Debra) Guirty, of Arlington, TN; her God son Daniel Webster; two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; her sister Carol (Jerome) Austin; her Brother Robert (Carol) Webster; her Brother Francis (Janice) Webster; her brother Richard (Catherine); her brother Maurice Webster, of Tampa, FL and many loving cousins, nieces and nephews. Memorial service will be held at 12:00 pm on October 16th, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 350 Stinson Avenue, Vacaville, CA.
