Obituary for Elizabeth Ann Bins
In loving memory of Elizabeth “Betty” Bins who passed away peacefully on December 29, 2017 from a short illness at the age of 79. Born Elizabeth Ann Curtis, the youngest of nine other siblings to Horatio and Doris Curtis in South Salem, New York, she was raised on the family farm in Peru, New York until she met and married her husband of 60 years, Ernest “Ernie” Bins. Following her marriage to Ernie in 1957 and the birth of three children at Plattsburg Air Force Base in New York, they spent a few years at Fairchild Air Force Base in Washington State where their fourth child was born. Shortly afterward they moved to Solano County - living there for over 30 years. As the wife of her Airman husband, Betty worked at the Sears Catalog Store on Parker Street in Vacaville while raising their children and supporting many of their children’s sporting and miscellaneous endeavors. She eventually continued her education at Solano Community College with studies in Early Childhood Development and earned her teaching credentials. Mrs. Bins, as she was known to her students, taught pre-school through high school classes for many years in Fairfield. After retirement, Betty and Ernie moved to Jacksonville, Illinois where she spent much of her time with her sister Joan Michela and Joan’s family including numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. More recently, Betty spent the past 18 years living in Carson City, Nevada where she hosted many wonderful years of family gatherings before she and Ernie returned to Fairfield in order to be closer to family. Betty enjoyed travel in her earlier years, loved cooking and reading but her passion in many of the later years in life was quilting. Spending long weekends or weeks at quilting retreats with her longtime friend and quilting mentor, she made many wonderful memories while making beautiful quilts for family and friends. Betty is survived by her husband Ernest, three of their four children Brenda, Bryan and Brice Bins; seven Grandchildren Zackary Onisko, Matthew and Jessica Huffman, Isabella, Jonathan, Miranda and Carter Bins and three Great grandchildren Riley Huffman, Madalina (Madi) and Calista (Cali) Onisko.
Betty will be interred at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery on February 1 at 2:30 pm. A reception and celebration of Betty’s life will be held at one of her favorite local establishments where Friday family dinners were a tradition, Pietro’s #1, 407 Cernon Street in Vacaville at 4:00pm.
