Obituary for Edna Sachiko Handa
Edna, a resident of Vacaville since 1946, lived a long, loving and meaningful life until her passing two weeks before her 100th birthday. She was born in San Jose, raised in Japan and returned to the U.S. at age 19. She met her husband, Sukeo, in Gila River relocation camp and was happily married for 43 years until he passed away in 1986. Edna was preceded in death by her brothers, Chester and Irving Ogi. She worked for the Nut Tree for forty years making their famous tamales and did seamstress and artistic projects when called upon. Edna was a member of the Vacaville Bonsai Club for decades and was a long time Vacaville Hospital Guild volunteer both in the Fairfield and Vacaville gift and thrift shops. She enjoyed many crafts and hobbies. Flower arranging, stained glass, ceramics, knitting, crocheting, quilting, sewing, cooking and gardening. She was a faithful SF Giants fan for 57 seasons. She loved her pets which included dogs, birds and Koi. Edna was always kind, compassionate and considerate. Always lending a helping hand when needed. She will forever be remembered with much love and gratitude for all the joy she brought to everyone who knew her. She is survived by a daughter, Susan, and numerous nieces and nephews. Private memorial services will be held at the Buddhist Church in Sacramento and she will be interred at Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.
