Obituary for Edit Louise Rabe
Edith Louise Dumond Rabe, a long-time Dixon resident, passed away on Aug. 1, at home in Sacramento. She had recently celebrated her 91st birthday.Edith was born on June 13, 1920 in Richmond, Calif. to Earl and Josephine Dumond. She was an only child who enjoyed her close ties with cousins and extended family. Edith grew up in Richmond, Groveland and Livermore, and graduated from UC Berkeley in 1941, earning a teacher\'s credential in 1942. After a year and a half as a teacher in Richmond, Edith decided to attend the U.S. Army Physical Therapy School in Springfield, Missouri. She served as a P.T. in the Army from 1944 to 1947, and then worked as a polio P.T. She always said that physical therapy was not just her vocation, but her avocation.Edith met John Rabe at a retreat in Wisconsin. In 1951, after a courtship by correspondence, they were married, and moved to Dixon in 1952. Edith was a housewife and mother, but she particularly enjoyed her part-time P.T. work and was an avid reader. She and John were active in St. Peter\'s parish, where Edith treasured her activities and friends as a 58-year member of the Y.L.I.After her husband\'s death in 2006, Edith made her home at Sunrise Assisted Living in Sacramento. Edith is survived by her three daughters, Marian Zalesin of San Mateo, Ann Bistolfo of Davis and Theresa Souza of Rancho Murieta, and her grandchildren, Brian and Amanda Bistolfo of Davis and Allison Jones of Rancho Murieta. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug, 5, at St. Peter\'s Catholic Church, 105 S. Second Street, Dixon. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 4, with a rosary at 6:30 p.m. at Milton Carpenter Funeral Home, 569 N. First Street, Dixon.
