Obituary for Edgar E. McCalmon
Our greatly loved went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 16, at his home in Vacaville following a short battle with a very aggressive form of cancer.
Ed's greatest joys in life were his family, his church in Placerville, fishing, gardening and traveling throughout California.
Ed was born in Double Springs, Ala., and grew up in Booneville, Miss. In 1951, he entered into the United States Air Force where he served four years active duty and received an honorable discharge. A year later, Ed began working at Travis Air Force Base as a civilian aircraft mechanic and stayed there until he retired in 1990. During his time at Travis AFB, he was named Civilian of the Year in '76 as well as MAC and AF Civilian of the Year in '77.
Ed is now with many family members who have gone before him, including his son, Jack McCalmon. However, he is survived by his wife, Myrle; sons, James, Michael, Edgar, Rodgar, Mark and David; daughters, Brenda, Dianna and Mary; and 29 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
Services for Ed will be held at McCune Garden Chapel, 212 Main St., Vacaville, at noon on Thursday, May 26, followed by the burial at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Road, Dixon, at 2 p.m.
