Douglas John McDonald February 4, 1963 - January 8, 2025
Douglas John McDonald, who grew up in Vacaville, CA, and also spent the last few years of his life in Vacaville, passed away at his home on January 8, 2025. He was 61 years old.
Douglas was born on February 4, 1963. He was the 6th of 7 children of Alice and Raymond McDonald.
Douglas is survived by his brothers, Hugh and Greg, and sisters Barbara Stewart (Rob) and Claire Crain. He was preceded in death by his mother Alice, father Raymond, sister Mary McDonald, and brother David.
As a youngster, Douglas played the position of pitcher on his Little League Team. He was also an avid baseball fan and had an extensive baseball card collection. He continued to add to that collection well into adulthood. His favorite team was the Oakland A's, and he often listened to their baseball games on the radio. He shared this interest with his younger brother, Greg.
Douglas also loved to watch car racing on TV, a surprising hobby for someone who was rather quiet and unassuming.
While still in elementary school, Douglas began playing the saxophone. His love for and appreciation of jazz music kept this love alive, and he continued to perform with former classmates and friends as a young adult. Some of his favorite jazz musicians were Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, and Stan Getz.
Douglas also enjoyed working on old cars and trying to give them new life. He shared this interest with his father.
Douglas graduated from Vacaville High School and continued his education at Sacramento State University, earning a bachelor's degree in psychology. He worked in the tech industry in the Silicon Valley as a purchasing agent.
The family appreciates the expression of sympathy from friends and is comforted by the many people who he met and who helped him.
People are encouraged to share memories of Douglas on the Tribute Wall.
