Obituary for Donna Mae (Taylor) Diaz
Donna Mae (Taylor) Diaz passed away peacefully on October 26, 2018, at the age of 85, in the hospital after a long battle of COPD with her husband Alphonso and children by her side.
She was born on April 13, 1933 to Harvey and Violet Taylor in Blue Earth, Minnesota, the second oldest of four children: Joyce Crownover, Richard (Dick) Taylor and Karyn Clark.
Her family moved to Richmond California in 1943. She met Alphonso on a blind date and it was love at first site. They were happily married in Reno, Nevada in 1951 and had 5 children.
Donna attended Richmond High School and then worked for Jacuzzi Brothers and The University of California Berkeley. In 1970, Donna and Alphonso followed their passion and opened their first Mexican restaurant in Berkeley, California called The Mexican Patio. After 10 successful years, they moved their business to Pinole, California and changed the name to Alfonso’s Mexican Restaurant for another 10 years. It was a family owned and operated business that had a huge following in the local community. They retired in Fairfield, CA in 1990.
Donna is lovingly remembered by her husband of 67 years, Alphonso Diaz. Children: Danny Diaz, Christopher (deceased at birth) Diaz, Robin (Brad) Gai, Teri (Greg) Shockey, and Christopher Diaz. Grandchildren: Andrew and Jason Gai, Jennifer and Sierra Shockey. Step Grandchildren: Annette (Ken) Hall and family and Allen Diaz and family. Sister: Joyce Crownover. Donna is predeceased by Sister: Karyn Clark. Brother: Richard (Dick) Taylor and will be remembered by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at 11:30am at McCune Garden Chapel followed by graveside service at 1:30pm at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery.
